Penny's Hill Beach Club

Large sand dunes have a notable place in Outer Banks history and Penny’s Hill is no exception. Situated approximately 2.5 miles north of the 4x4 beach access ramp, the neighborhood is located adjacent to the giant Penny’s Hill sand dune. Penny’s Hill is located on the 4x4 beach between the ocean and the sound, and it is the second largest sand dune in North Carolina, as Jockey’s Ridge in Nags Head is the largest. A climb to the top of Penny’s Hill offers the opportunity for panoramic views of the natural beauty of the Outer Banks.

Please help protect the Corolla Wild Horses! Always admire the horses from a distance. State law requires staying at least 50 feet away including pets. Do not feed the horses or leave trash out where horses could get to it. These horses cannot digest foods one might give to a farm horse, like apples or carrots. Please do not speed and keep watch for horses when driving on the beach or behind the dunes. Currituck County requires 4x4 parking permits to park on the beach beginning the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday in October. You do not need a pass to drive on the beach or park at the home. Two 4x4 parking passes are included with each 4x4 vacation home. The passes are located in the home's kitchen in a red envelope.

About Penny's Hill Beach Club

Penny’s Hill has minimal vegetation and is considered a living dune, as it is constantly being shaped by the coastal winds of the Outer Banks. Nature preserves and less development than in other areas of the Outer Banks offer the opportunity to slow down and enjoy the coastal landscape of the 4x4 beaches. A diverse variety of wildlife regularly roams the area, including the Corolla Wild Horses. Listen to the sounds of waves lapping the shore nearby and breathe in the refreshing salty breeze. With a location just a few miles from the 4x4 beach access ramp, Penny’s Hill Beach Club is convenient to shopping, dining, and entertainment in nearby Corolla.
