About South Nags Head

Experience the slower pace of this uncomplicated, narrow stretch of the Outer Banks. Bordered by the town of Nags Head to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, National Park Service land to the west and south preserves the natural environment, and keeps development to a minimum. Become familiar with the diverse coastal wildlife and dark, starry night sky that is unlike any other. Take a leisurely walk along the uncrowded sands that are a beachcomber’s haven. The multi-use path along Old Oregon Inlet Road is available for an afternoon stroll or bike ride.

While South Nags Head is largely residential, shopping, restaurants and entertainment are just minutes away. Outer Banks Fishing Pier is located in the middle of South Nags Head and presents a truly special Outer Banks experience on the Atlantic. Aside from spectacular pier fishing, Fish Heads Bar & Grill offers a unique oceanfront atmosphere with tasty steamed shrimp, cold beverages, and live music with the best view in town. Climb nearby Bodie Island Lighthouse to get a birds-eye perspective of the dense natural surroundings, which include a mix of marshlands, maritime forest, and small saltwater ponds. Fishing and boating enthusiats will also enjoy being in close proximity to Pirate's Cove Marina and Oregon Inlet.
